Add topicWikiProject Govdirectory
[edit]Hi @Ainali!
I trust you're doing well. I came across your message notification on the Talk page of the Wikimedia UG Nigeria and shared it with our community through our WhatsApp group for reach.
Interested editors are asking for a To-do List and/or guide on how they can participate in the WikiProject Govdirectory. If there's a simple documentation page on a clear-cut instructions on participating do well to share it with me, so I can direct others to learn about how the can join the collaborative editing on the Govdirectory. - Hello Atibrarian! Thanks for contacting me. The general gist is under Wikidata:WikiProject_Govdirectory#Improving_the_data. And the page for Nigeria is on Wikidata:WikiProject_Govdirectory/Nigeria. I admit it is not very clear-cut, basically because each country is different. But a good start is to find official sources and lists of public organizations and agencies and add them to the country page. That will make for a good start to make queries and see what is missing in Wikidata and what items still need to be created. Ainali (talk) 17:15, 16 February 2025 (UTC)
Flag of Grenada
[edit]Hi Jan! I have some new groups at the start, we are working on Chile, Vietnam, Cyprus, Grenada and maybe Cameroon. There is no flag of Grenada available with the right name, however. There is an image on Commons [1] but the name does not fit. How should this best be taken care of? Looking forward to another wild ride modeling governmental structures! - Oh, that is great that you are starting again! I think this is Grenada:
, made with ({{flag|GRN}}). Ainali (talk) 19:59, 10 June 2025 (UTC)- Please also post on the project talk page, so more people than I see this, it may get them too activated. Ainali (talk) 20:01, 10 June 2025 (UTC)
Please choose a different “i” glyph for User:Ainali/usageInstructions.js
[edit]I’m using macOS and I don’t have any font installed that can render the information icon you used in your script: 🛈
Your script would be a lot more useful if it used an SVG icon or a more popular glyph (e.g. the ℹ️ emoji, or its text variant: ℹ︎). — keepright! ler (talk) 17:14, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- Found more issues with your script:
- If the left sidebar is collapsed, the tooltip gets clipped at the left side of the browser window, which means you cannot read the instructions properly!
- Please only show the icon button if usage instructions are available in the currently chosen language. With the current programming, the usage instructions for country of citizenship (P27) are displayed in Polish because they’re not available in English and Polish is the first choice. I would rather not have the icon button displayed in such a case.

- @Keepright! ler You're in luck! The user script is freely licensed and you can copy it to your own page and change it to your heart's desire. Ainali (talk) 17:56, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- I know that, I just wanted to inform you that these issues are universal and that you may want to fix them in your version of the script or else, everyone who uses the script has to implement the fixes for themselves! (Except if I add my improved version of the script to the list at Wikidata:Tools/Enhance_user_interface …) — keepright! ler (talk) 18:06, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
- I might give it a go on the Wikimania hackathon. Ainali (talk) 19:41, 15 July 2025 (UTC)

Why revert duplicate classification
[edit]You reverted Steeg (Q681867) to be instance of (P31) rural municipality of Austria (Q1802801) and municipality of Austria (Q667509). Why did you revert to a configuration that does not make sense?
Given that rural municipality of Austria (Q1802801) is a subclass of (P279) municipality of Austria (Q667509), Steeg (Q681867) already is instance of (P31) municipality of Austria (Q667509) without any need to add this once again. -- Harald Hetzner (talk) 15:21, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Harald Hetzner Because on the Austrian municipality key property (Q681867#P964), Steeg is listed among the other 2092 municipalities. So at least one item with the label Steeg should have municipality of Austria (Q667509) or we end up one short. What source do you use for it to have rural municipality of Austria (Q1802801)? To me, it seems like you are repurposing an existing and well-modeled item to become something else instead of creating a new item. Should there be two items perhaps? Ainali (talk) 16:02, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- As it is also the case in other countries, municipalities in Austria can be divided into different types of municipalities. Steeg is obviously rural. The capital is a small village in a more remote part of the Lech valley. Therefore, this classification looks appropriate.
- For an unknown reason, there is the rural municipality of Austria (Q1802801) item on Wikidata, but no corresponding item for an Austrian urban municipality (Stadtgemeinde) as well as "Marktgemeinde", even though the Wikipedia article de:Gemeinde (Österreich), to which de:Landgemeinde (Österreich) redirects also mentions them.
- If you consider it inappropriate to classify an Austrian municipality in a rural area as rural municipality of Austria (Q1802801), which is technically equivalent to municipality of Austria (Q667509) due to subclassing, then the ancient rural municipality of Austria (Q1802801) classification should be removed instead.
- Do you consider this the better solution? Harald Hetzner (talk) 16:47, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- You say "obviously", yet you haven't produced a source yet, nor a source that states that it is not a municipality of Austria (Q667509). Are they hard to find? Ainali (talk) 17:03, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- I have personally been to the village of Steeg, which is located in the municipality that goes by the same name. The village clearly is a village. The municipality clearly is non-urban mountainside.
- Further, I do not dispute that the municipality of Steeg is an Austrian municipality.
- Yet, from a logical point of view, it does not make any sense that an item is an instance of another item and at the same time it is an instance of a subclass of the latter item. It is sufficient if the item is an instance of the subclass item. This makes it an instance of the subclass item's superclass at the same time. Harald Hetzner (talk) 18:51, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- You should know that you can't really put your personal observations in the reference field of a statement. However, I take it from your recent edits on rural municipality of Austria (Q1802801) that it shouldn't be used anymore, and that it is a historical class. Ainali (talk) 19:40, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- It is not about putting personal observations in some field that can only link database items. However, personal observations of somebody who has actually been on site should take precedence over internet swarm stupidity. Harald Hetzner (talk) 20:43, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
- If you are calling the source Statistics Austria (Q358870) for internet swarm stupidity, I think we have reached the end of our conversation. Ainali (talk) 21:46, 24 November 2025 (UTC)
