Bitte um Aufklärung

[edit]

Hallo Albrecht62, hier fehlt Kontext in Deinem Beitrag.
Viele Grüße, MisterSynergy (talk) 16:33, 23 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Wiederherstellung von Q131415133

[edit]

—MisterSynergy (talk) 13:02, 25 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

could you please restore some of the empty wikidata items?

[edit]

hello, sorry for bothering you. would you be so kind to restore some of the empty wikidata items you have deleted? we are in the process of populating them (we are organising a campaign of writing article about notable females on the Ukrainian Wikipedia, and we use wikidata items to create lists for creating and improving articles), namely:

apologies for leaving them empty, we shall try to be more diligent about this moving forward. thank you! 13:26, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Done. Please do not create new items quicker than you can populate them with actual data. —MisterSynergy (talk) 19:05, 24 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Consider Restoring Q129266285 (Mayberry Pharmacy)

[edit]

Could you consider restoring Q129266285 (Mayberry Pharmacy), which you deleted for not meeting the notability policy? I believe that this entry was referring to https://mayberrypharmacy.co.uk/ which is a small pharmacy chain with seven physical branches in the UK -- so it's a clearly identifiable material entity. It's also a UK-registered limied company 03812234 and each branch is registered with the General Pharmacuitical Council [1] -- which means that it is described by serious and publicly available references.

Many thanks, Rjw62 (talk) 22:48, 27 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Done. Please add serious references which are independent of the described entity itself to make it compliant with the notability policy. ---MisterSynergy (talk) 23:20, 27 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Is there way to remove one qualifier by QuickStatements?

[edit]

Hi, there's another batch i need. But instead of you doing it, could you teach me how to do it myself? That way i dont have to keep bothering you whenever i need to run it Trade (talk) 17:08, 24 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Not sure whether this is possible, as I am certainly not the best QuickStatements editor. In the past I often ran into limitations with QuickStatements, thus I do most jobs with custom-written pywikibot scripts via PAWS. The current script, for instance, is here. Once one is familiar with Python and the pywikibot library, these jobs are actually not that difficult. —MisterSynergy (talk) 17:50, 24 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Property creator

[edit]

User:MsynABot is inactive for nearly six months

[edit]

Hello, in case you missed it, User:MsynABot has been inactive since September 2024, which is nearly six months ago. According to Wikidata:Administrators, your administrator access may lose in case of inactivity. Midleading (talk) 02:44, 25 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

I am aware, thank you. A critical component of the bot, maintained by someone else, broke away last year and I do not find the time to implement a replacement. —MisterSynergy (talk) 06:11, 25 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I have removed the admin flag. I am sure it will be easy to get it back via another request if needed. Ymblanter (talk) 20:28, 2 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I have a suspicion about what is broken but can you clarify? Then maybe something can be done to help fix it. Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 11:28, 5 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
The bot used to download and process a file that was updated once per week by the Wikidata Concepts Monitor (Q42376073) tool. It stopped working roughly a year ago, as you can see on this index page from the timestamps. Only the file wdcm_topItems.csv is of interest for my bot, and as much as I remember, it was specifically created upon my request for this bot.
If the tool and its updates do not return, I would need to gather this data by myself which would require a deep dive into the underlying database schema which I am currently not very familiar with. My available time for Wikidata is pretty limited meanwhile, and this will not get any better in the future unfortunately. —MisterSynergy (talk) 14:45, 5 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ok I feared that is what happened. Thank you. I have opened phab:T388010 to get a regular report back. Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 15:01, 5 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Report can be found at https://tools-static.wmflabs.org/kvasir1/ , the first version also counts entityusage on wikidatawiki, but the next ones won't. I also plan to rewrite the tool to speed it up. Infrastruktur (talk) 12:19, 9 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Oh great! Thank you @Infrastruktur!
@MisterSynergy: Can you confirm this works for you? Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 16:48, 10 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Looks promising on first impression, and it roughly follows the strategy that I have outlined in Phabricator as well (loop over all projects to query local client data, and ultimately aggregate everything together). There are a couple of aspects for fine tuning before I would actually let the bot try to use the output. I’ll talk to User:Infrastruktur when I have a little more time for this. —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:15, 10 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
My first analysis—correlating usage counts and rankings of the new output with the latest result from the old tool—shows that the kvasir1 tool by User:Infrastruktur does indeed produce a result that is very similar to the old WDCM tool. I think I could indeed use it with very little modifications. I would, however, request the following:
  • to include all items with 300+ uses, instead of limiting it to the top 100.000 used items
  • not to update the tsv file if any of the queries for any of the Wikibase clients has failed or was incomplete; parsing the log seems too fragile to me to find out that the result is compromised
  • I am not sure why we need to exclude wikidatawiki from the results; consider to include it just as all other wikis
So far my first impression. —MisterSynergy (talk) 00:21, 12 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Currently testing out the changes. Set the script that runs everything to run in strict mode; which will result in no files being updated if the python script exits with a non-zero status. Some errors are more likely to happen, especially databases can be taken offline, even in the midst of a query. I checked that PyMYSQL throws an exception if we try to connect to a server that it can't find or a database that doesn't exist. I don't know if PyMySQL will throw if a query fails, it doesn't return any status so exceptions is the only thing that can catch these errors. I did add an extra check to verify that the correct amount of inserts are done to the ToolDB database, and it will throw an exception if this is not the case. Hopefully it will throw if the last query fails, it has to aggregate 113M rows so conceivably it could run out of memory if the server is under heavy load. It's currently set to run night to Saturday at 01:00.
It also occurred to me you can also just read the output data directly from the VFS mount if you prefer. Infrastruktur (talk) 22:30, 12 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the update. Take your time to get it running robustly, this is not so critical that it couldn't wait for another week or two.
I do by myself in fact operate two bot jobs [2][3] which also loop over all 800-ish Wikimedia projects to run queries and aggregate the results, so I am well aware of the difficulties, including all the things which can go wrong with client database access as well as the memory limitations on Toolforge. It took me weeks to get those jobs running somewhat smoothly, and the oversight of the weekly execution shows that there are still occasionally situation when the bot just fails. Anyways, since I use another database connector (mariadb), I cannot really help you with the PyMYSQL stuff. —MisterSynergy (talk) 23:14, 12 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Alright, User:Infrastruktur, I have now migrated my bot to use your query result (diff). There are currently ~6800 page protections that need to be added, and ~480 to be lifted.
Is there anything on your side that prevents us from getting the bot back into service? I would need to talk to the bureaucrats whether I need to go through the admin and bot approval process again, or whether an informal request would be sufficient after losing the admin flag only recently. —MisterSynergy (talk) 22:03, 20 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Rescheduling the job to run roughly 48 hours before yours, currently set for Wed 01:00. I think we are good to go starting next week, nothing more planned except setting up logrotate. Infrastruktur (talk) 15:35, 21 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Bureaucrats want to see a new RfA, thus it will take at least another week. Once the admin flag is back, I'd run the bot manually to catch up with the backlog. Afterwards, the regular schedule (every Friday 10pm UTC) is fine IMO. —MisterSynergy (talk) 16:03, 21 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
The initial run has finished, the bot will now do its job weekly as described in my previous comment. If it finds an outdated results file, it will not do anything harmful and catch up a week later.
As mentioned earlier, there should just *not* be an updated, but *incomplete' results file because whatever went wrong during the results file generation. —MisterSynergy (talk) 08:24, 31 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Calle Cool (talk) 09:01, 17 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

It is restored, but it cannot remain in this condition. The data item needs a link to a serious source that provides a definition of the described entity.
More in general, this is one of many (hundreds) of data items that are being created and then abandoned without meeting the notability criteria. We usually delete these items without further notice. —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:22, 17 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'am from Hindi Wikipedia (hiwiki). I just noticed your bot edited to use 'अनुखंड:' canonical namespace prefix to replace 'Module:' namespace (example here). However, this change was temporary as it wasn't discussed with the community and later on this change was revoked. Now, Hindi wiki projects are again using the 'Module:' name for this namespace. I see. But it's a mess, unfortunately, with these canonical namespaces. Do you remember when this configuration has been changed?
My bot relies on the pywikibot framework to get canonical namespaces sorted, which by itself probably pulls this information from the MediaWiki API as much as I am aware. An edit such as the one you have provided happens when the bot finds a sitelink using a namespace alias, and then normalizes the sitelink to use the canonical namespace. At least, this is what I understand from the pywikibot documentation.
Following this API call, the canonical namespace is currently indeed called "Module" on hiwiktionary. However, hi:wikt:Module:hi-translit still redirects to the localized variant which seems to be the one that is primarily exposed to the users on the wiki. Technically, the sitelink is still valid as much as I am aware. —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:55, 19 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

MsynABot

Hi, I flagged MsynABot again as administrator. It can do its runs again! --Lymantria (talk) 13:37, 30 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thank you —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:25, 30 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I do have a question about the new bot activity. I saw MsynABot revoked semi-protection from Nederlands Soortenregister (Q2246990) while this item has more that 500 inlinks. Are links at wikidata not considered? --Lymantria (talk) 18:51, 30 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
No, these internal backlinks from other entity namespaces in Wikidata are not considered. Also, usage at Commons SDC is not being considered as this is rather difficult to query at this point.
What counts as usage in the sense of this scheme is data usage in Wikibase clients (of which Wikidata can be one) via modules or parser functions that pull data from Wikidata. You can find relevant usage via e.g. Page information#Page properties (accessible from the toolbar), which links all Wikibase clients that are (or have been) using the entity, and also displays which pages use different aspects of a data item.
The underlying RfC back then was motivated by widely visible vandalism on Wikimedia pages that were downstream users of Wikidata items. As much as I remember, highly used items were a particularly attractive target for vandals at the time as vandalism could be spread efficiently that way, thus the RfC aimed to prevent this by limiting edits to highly used items. —MisterSynergy (talk) 20:15, 30 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the explanation. --Lymantria (talk) 05:26, 31 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Just read through the RFC. I could probably expand the statistics to give the bot more options for the future.
Assuming ToolsDB doesn't protest about the memory usage, I might be able to have it do aggregations for how many times a label for Q12345 was used, how many times a claim from Q12345 was used and how many total uses from Q12345 there was. And even if I run into memory issues, the data can be split up into batches. You could then use the numbers to calculate a score that weighs some data as more important (claims).
The database tables keeps tracks of some links, but IIRC for incoming links only the search back-end keeps track of this. The number is pre-calculated too. I have experimented with it in the past so I know I can use it to make aggregations on searches, so it ought to be possible to have it have it produce a top-list of incoming links internally on Wikidata.
Both of the above are interesting tasks I wouldn't mind working on, regardless of if they end up being used. I'm not familiar enough with Commons SDC to comment on it. Infrastruktur (talk) 22:59, 30 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I do not think that we should expand the scope of the current protection scheme beyond its current extent as otherwise the number of affected items would quickly explode to very substantial numbers.
Usage in Commons SDC as well as internal Wikidata usage would be interesting to know for sure, but I am not aware of a serious vandalism situation that would warrant an new protection scheme tied to such usage. Both web UIs of Wikidata and SDC are very much editor tools with *much* less reader traffic as Wikipedia pages, thus I think there is no significant motivation for vandals to exploit highly used items via structured data. —MisterSynergy (talk) 23:09, 30 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

DeltaBot update

[edit]

Hello, can you run command on your Bot to update the subpages from here? Thanks. — SimplyFreddie (talk) 10:25, 27 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Some of the pages have been updated, for others the query seems to fail for some reason. I need to investigate what is going on here. Do you have a specific page in mind which would benefit from an update? ---MisterSynergy (talk) 20:46, 30 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I'm thinking about list on Serbian Wikipedia (/sr subpage). — SimplyFreddie (talk) 21:50, 30 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
The problem seems too complex for a quick solution. Meanwhile, you can use the query for srwiki at WDQS. The bot just writes a "pretty" version of that query result to the report page. ---MisterSynergy (talk) 20:45, 1 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much. By the way, is it the code that is already written in the box? I'm getting some kind of timeout error without results. — SimplyFreddie (talk) 09:56, 2 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
This is kinda the problem that I have. It sometimes times out, and sometimes finishes easily and well within the timeout limit of 60 s. Try it again one or two times, maybe it will give you a result. ---MisterSynergy (talk) 12:25, 2 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Removal of item Q134049092

Hi! Just a quick note regarding the item you recently removed as one that did not meet the notability requirements. This item was a work in progress, associated with the International Digital Dura-Europos Archive (IDEA). This item serves a structural purpose, but the editing was incomplete as we finalized research for the item enrichment. Is there a way to restore the item? Ahc84 (talk) 17:17, 6 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

There are references in his old Wikipedia article to pass WDN2 and since the Green Light Trust (Q5602807) was founded by (P112) him he also passes WDN3 Piecesofuk (talk) 18:19, 22 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
I am not able to verify most of the information provided on the deleted en-Wikipedia page via the references in there. BLP is an issue here, thus I am asking for an external source that describes him well enough to merit a Wikidata item. ---~~~~ MisterSynergy (talk) 07:25, 24 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
@MisterSynergy It lists a full-page article about him and his husband in The Times which you should be able to read at https://www.thetimes.com/uk/environment/article/the-weetabix-house-ngqnm3zf986 or maybe at link-gale-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/apps/doc/IF0502866409/TTDA?u=wikipedia&sid=bookmark-TTDA&xid=35725793 Piecesofuk (talk) 09:40, 24 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
The article is here: https://archive.is/2rkiV
I am not doubting that this person exists or has some reasonable role in Green Light Trust (Q5602807).
However, seeing the deleted article contained plenty of unsourced information about this person that seemed to have been included by someone with insider knowledge, I am not sure whether we have potential some problem with promotional efforts at hand. Thus I am asking for some external description for this person, beyond anectoral descriptions of how he has run his organization two decades ago. The deleted Wikipedia article is not helpful here, unfortunately. —MisterSynergy (talk) 20:28, 25 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
@MisterSynergy The role he has with Green Light Trust was that he co-founded it with his husband, I believe this is enough to pass WDN3. Here's more evidence: https://www.suffolknews.co.uk/bury-st-edmunds/news/two-mens-bid-to-protect-a-part-of-the-rainforest-9117512/ archived at https://web.archive.org/web/20250209072110/https://www.suffolknews.co.uk/bury-st-edmunds/news/two-mens-bid-to-protect-a-part-of-the-rainforest-9117512/ If there is unsourced information on the item then I'll provide references or remove it. Piecesofuk (talk) 06:41, 26 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
His capacity as a founder does not automatically make him notable, and we need to trade it against the BLP issue. Only when he is described as an individual, e.g. in some external authority file or database, or in an article within a serious source that describes him as a person (and not just him in the role of a founder), the notability situation becomes clear to pass WD:N. —MisterSynergy (talk) 23:14, 26 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
The Times article clearly describes him as an individual: "Twenty years ago Nigel and Ric were living the rollercoaster ride of self-employment as an actor and writer respectively. Based in London at the time, they had also rented a small cottage in Lawshall. The rent was a mere £2 a week, but that was in return for getting stuck in with repairs, including fixing the leaky roof and reassembling the jigsaw puzzle of beams that had been thrown out. Once most of the work had been done, they decided it was time for adventure and took off in search of virgin rainforest... And so began a totally new chapter in their lives, which has continued ever since. Working with William Takaku, director at the time of the National Theatre company of Papua New Guinea, they created a drama show that toured the forest by dugout canoe and performed its agit prop to mobilise local opposition against wanton deforestation."

Why did you remove https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134583312 and https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q134577547?

The items had a description, they exist in real life and were linked in OSM. Your deletion broke the links.

None of that matters for inclusion. Please refer to Wikidata:Notability in order to learn how you make items compliant with that policy. This was an edit in November 2023. The page had this condition back then, and technically did not qualify as a redirect page. Not sure whether this was intentional or some accident by the procedural templates used on the page at that time. —MisterSynergy (talk) 20:52, 11 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Q134052499

[edit]

Hello @MisterSynergy,

Would you please consider restoring the deleted item "Q134052499 = Ecocirta"?

Ecocirta is a legally registered environmental association in Algeria. It has received funding from the GEF/UNDP, publishes the scientific journal Natura Algerica, and has an accepted ROR request that will be published in the next release. This request uses the Wikidata ID, and it risks being omitted in the published version if the ID is deleted..

I believe it meets Wikidata's notability criteria and I can provide reliable sources for other external mentions (newspapers, TV, Radio...).

Thank you for your time and consideration. Mediche (talk) 19:35, 17 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

It is restored. However, in this condition it is not compliant with the notability policy at WD:N. Please add a base set of statements including references to serious external sources. There is otherwise a risk that the page will be deleted again, either as empty or promotional item. —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:03, 18 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much, yes I'll do. Mediche (talk) 18:51, 18 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Wikidata patrol dashboard

[edit]

https://wdpd.toolforge.org/ has been last updated at the beginning of June. --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 11:24, 22 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the notice.
The ipblocks table has been removed. Seems I need to put some serious effort into the tool in order to get it running again. I can't promise right now when I find the time for it, unfortunately. —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:33, 22 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
If it's just the "users with block history" dashboard, I think we can live without it as long as the rest is working. But it's totally up to you. --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 19:00, 22 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
With the upcoming temporary accounts for IP users, there will likey be more adaptation necessary anyways. If that is too complicated, I would probably need to retire the tool. —MisterSynergy (talk) 17:30, 23 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Uh, that's sad to hear, and it could be fatal. It's currently the only tool (I am aware of) which provides complete lists of changes by language https://wdpd.toolforge.org/by_lang (including "termbox", as I wrote here: [4]).
I was wondering if I could help somehow. I was looking at the code, and the structure seems quite clear to me. This looks like the function which needs to be updated. Let me see... --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 16:16, 28 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, I made the tool because I was missing plenty of filter options at the time when I was more active as a patroller, and I think that patrolling at Wikidata very much depends on the availability of a large variety of filters—much more than on other wikis.
Technically, the tool is still more a concept than a fully developed tool, although it has at some point found its way from PAWS to Toolforge. Preferably, I would update the backend to use a temporary tool database instead of CSV files (not that difficult for me to get done), and have a completely new frontend (not in my skillset). The frontend could dynamically pull data via an API using Javascript, load diffs on request, and also provide a login for patrol action triggered within the tool and so on. Unfortunately, I never seriously touched Javascript and its modern frameworks, so this is for any foreseeable future not something I am able to attack.
The identified piece of code is more or less correct. Unfortunately, they have come up with a somewhat peculiar scheme for the block target table (different columns for registered and unregistered users), so right now I am not sure whether I can just update the query or there is more to change. I'll have a closer look for this particular problem, but the temporary user problem is much more of a concern for me as this would probably require changes at many places in the backend. —MisterSynergy (talk) 19:14, 28 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
I think the tool is good as-is. In fact, the only thing where I really really miss JavaScript are (un)sortable tables. Something like class="sortable" on-wiki would change a lot.
As for the blocks, I have come to the same conclusion. Anecdotally, when IPs will be gone forever, we will only have to deal with registered users. Another news to consider is multiblocks, i.e., we can have more than one block per user. So perhaps it isn't worth the effort. What about replacing the function with a dummy (empty) data frame for now? --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 20:50, 28 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
I have applied a hotfix on Toolforge and the full tool result update is working for the moment. However, I think the query result for range blocks is not correct yet and I need to dig a bit deeper. This only affects minor results sets, so not a huge issue as much as I think.
But now I am concerned that I have never heard of multiblocks… :-/ —MisterSynergy (talk) 21:08, 28 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot! For multiblocks, see m:Community Wishlist Survey 2023/Multiblocks. It's the means for applying multiple simultaneous blocks to a user and the reason why we now need more than one table and Special:Block looks different. --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 07:23, 29 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Understood, thank you for the link! —MisterSynergy (talk) 07:57, 29 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Beschränkung der Editiermöglichkeit

[edit]

—MisterSynergy (talk) 17:39, 8 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Grundlegende Aussagen in Richtung Kategorisierung? ZB. Landeszugehörigkeit, County, etc? Bydbach (talk) 08:45, 9 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Bydbach (talk) 13:54, 11 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Q4881966 undeletion request

[edit]

Please consider undeletion of Q4881966. The item for it was recreated in Q111249775. I think it's good to merge two items. Jarash (talk) 16:38, 14 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Q111249775 needs a proper definition first. In its current form, it qualifies for deletion as well. —MisterSynergy (talk) 19:28, 14 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Fake elements

[edit]

Hi MisterSynergy,
I saw that you have deleted some empty items, including Q135229131, Q135229123, which had been created by User:PCG-HistoriendeLorraine.
Actually this user has attempted, several times, to create a fictive article on the french wiki, as it can be seen on their talk page there, as well as on their (unofficial) 2nd account's.
User also created the same page (in duplicate versions) on fr.wikiversity, that were deleted (eligibility debate #1 - eligibility debate #2.
Ultimately, there is an open deletion request for the files uploaded by user's 2 accounts, on commons, since the files declared “as authentic” are in fact mostly generated by IA and that none of them can be corroborated by any reference.
So it's very likely that all elements created by this user here are highly non relevant.

Latvian Olympic Committee athlete ID (archived) (P2593)

[edit]

--Wikijunkie (talk) 00:44, 27 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Can you restore deleted items

[edit]

Hi can you restore the following items:

Which are all used on Commons. I do not know why were they empty. I looked at some of them and most were introduced by User:Bukk. Once restored I promise to fill them quickly. Jarekt (talk) 03:28, 26 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I would like to know too why those items are empty. Greetz! Bukk (talk) 05:12, 26 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Bukk, I suspect that a lot of them are empty because after the creation, nobody added any statements to those items. Look for example at Q135409663, which was not deleted, but in one month after creation by you, did not have any statements. --Jarekt (talk) 12:45, 26 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Jarekt! What can I do to avoid such mistakes? Greetz! Bukk (talk) 13:48, 26 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
I have checked some of those, and they all had no claims and no usage on Commons. A prototypical example of abandoned content due to tool malfunction or lack of skill which we need to tidy up so regularly. Also, please mind that some of the listed items have been deleted by other admins.
Since it is that much content, may I propose that I restore in batches of 10 to provide you with time to tidy this up incrementally. Would this work out? —MisterSynergy (talk) 19:49, 26 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Batches of 10 will work for me. By the way, once or twice a year I clean up a backlog of c:Category:Artworks with Wikidata item missing image and c:Category:Artworks with Wikidata item: quick statements or files with metadata stored on commons which are linked to artwork items on Wikidata which has less metadata. Right now all files in c:Category:Artworks with Wikidata item missing image are connected to deleted items. One easy way to create Wikidata item for an artwork is to create empty item connect infobox on commons to that item, automatically move metadata using quick statements, and clean up by adding references and urls to the item. It looks like user Bukk and probably others do the first part of the transfer but loose track of it before completing, and every time I clean up those categories I have to undelete few dozen items. --Jarekt (talk) 03:01, 27 August 2025 (UTC).Reply
batch is done. please let me know when I should continue —MisterSynergy (talk) 12:12, 27 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Jarekt Please be very careful as Bukk is notorious for creating many duplicate items instead of just linking images to the existing ones (as there are indeed often several files for a single painting). I've been spending a lot of time identifying and merging hundreds of them, during the last couple of years, and am still struggling with his latest August spree :(. As an example, the 4th on the list here has been created from File:Bouguereau, Bacchante sur une panthère, 1855 (5590348394).jpg which is obviously just an alternate version of File:William Adolphe Bouguereau - Bacchante on a Panther - 1980.238.2 - Cleveland Museum of Art.tif and should just have been linked to the same item. So I just needed to merge the item you have just had restored... Again everyone losing time with it. So before starting to fill them, please check they are actually needed and for a non already existing painting. Thanks. Nono314 (talk) 17:54, 27 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
MisterSynergy I am done with those. Nono314, thanks for heads up, and I did find another duplicate. --Jarekt (talk) 01:24, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Jarekt: I have cleaned up Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Creator/William-Adolphe Bouguereau from all of Bukk's duplicates since yesterday evening, and it was a real bloodbath ([5]). Imagine my despondency when no later than this morning, another duplicate was needlessly recreated! I'm speaking of Q134563007. Bukk's contribution to the Wikidata project is completely worthless and he should not be allowed to create files altogether.--Edelseider (talk) 07:34, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Edelseider, that is partially my fault, as I did search for duplicates of that file, but I did not find Wikidata:WikiProject sum of all paintings/Creator/William-Adolphe Bouguereau. --Jarekt (talk) 13:52, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Bukk:, based of assessment of Edelseider, Nono314 and my own trouble with a clean up of c:Category:Artworks with Wikidata item missing image with 100's of links to deleted items, can you stop creating new artwork related items? Your error rate is just too high and you are creating a lot of work for others. Please continue with adding more properties to existing items or linking Commons files to existing items. --Jarekt (talk) 13:52, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

MisterSynergy, lets keep the rest of the list, deleted and I will remove the links to them from commons. --Jarekt (talk) 13:53, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ok —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:25, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Undeletion request for brands listed in Name Suggestion Index

[edit]

These items were deleted because of "notability criteria" by @MisterSynergy. For unknown reasons, they were not discussed:

Q124048681, Q124374180, Q124374212, Q124374249, Q124374289, Q124374322, Q124374392, Q124374469, Q124374511

However, these items were used by Name Suggestion Index, an OpenStreetMap project listing brands to help OSM editors adding brands, and the delections caused issues for the project. I therefor believe these items satisfies N2 for all of them because OSM Name Suggestion Index ID (Property:P8253) is Wikidata property for an identifier that suggests notability: Q62589316.

If you need other information, let me know, thanks. Saimmx (talk) 15:52, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

  • Item deletion does not require a discussion or notification. If an item page does not meet the notability criteria, it qualifies for immediate deletion. We do not have the capacity as a community to discuss these cases individually as hundreds of items per day are being deleted this way.
  • None of the items had a P8253 identifier. Please add them in order to indicate notability. Admins are otherwise unable to spot the usage in OSM.
  • I have restored these items.
MisterSynergy (talk) 18:32, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • Okay, I see the point of deletion with no discussion, I found "This item was deleted by... for "some reason". Previous discussions about this item include..." on Wikidata:Guide to requests for undeletion#How to request undeletion somewhat misleading after reading your explaintion.
  • I guess the "P8253" identifier was not there because the brands were added in pull request (PR, a term on Github, pretty much like what "edit request" is on Wikipedia) process before it can be merged (a term on Github, you can see it as "accepted on NSI"). Take "Holy Greens" (Q124048681) for example, it was created on 30 December 2023 (2023-12-30), but it was only merged on 25 May 2024 (2024-05-25), and the item itself was deleted on 14 January 2024 (2024-01-14), thus the issues. Since all brands must have its entries on Wikidata, many of them created the brand on Wikidata before their pull request was accepted
  • I have added their P8253 now, anyways. Thank you for your kind cooperation.

It has been an empty item for more than a week, seemingly abandoned after creation. We have plenty of these cases and usually delete them after some days. (The same applies to the item in context above.) —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:52, 22 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Both items are restored, please add statements as a definition, as well as external sources to make it compliant to the notability policy. The items would otherwise be eligible for deletion again. —MisterSynergy (talk) 19:45, 24 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello MisterSynergy, a few months ago you gave me this code for showing footballers that don't exist on srwiki. Is it possible to modify this code so it shows people with other occupation? Sure. Q937857 is the item for association football player (Q937857) and you can just replace it in the query with any other occupation Q-ID. —MisterSynergy (talk) 11:26, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Problem with RecentDeaths reports

[edit]

Hi !

There seems to be a problem with Wikidata:Database reports/Deaths at Wikipedia... the DeltaBot begins in 1941, and then stops after 1947 or 1948... years beginning in 1950 have not been updated since 21 september, which is almost a month...

Can you try and see what stops the bot, please ? I've begun updating the items on those reports, and a lot of them should be much shorter :)

Thanks for your help on this. Hsarrazin (talk) 17:26, 16 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

The job fails because the query for the 1948 report is empty, apparently. This is not a condition the bot has seen before …
Will fix it when I have time. The script is rather old and not well structured, unfortunately. Thanks for the report! —MisterSynergy (talk) 14:57, 17 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Well, I remember PLBot giving an "empty" report sometimes, but... Thanks for your help on this, and for having taken of this work...
I will be cautious, for a time, to always leave at least 1 item on the years I work on :) Hsarrazin (talk) 05:06, 20 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I am aware that the bot can produce empty reports. In fact, the 1947 report has recently been empty, but it crashed at the 1948 report due to a somewhat different situation it found itself in. Anyways, the 1948 report is not empty anymore, so for the moment the situation should be fairly acceptable again, right? —MisterSynergy (talk) 20:21, 20 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
yes ! but if I empty the list of deaths in a year (which is the aim of the tool), there is risk that it will happen again at next update, on 1948 or any other year...
in fact, the bot crashed after updating empty 1947, a week before my message about 1948... - the symptom seems to be the same : the bot empties the report, then updates it a second time... is it because after stopping, it tries again ?
Please tell me if I should be cautious and avoid the situation for some time :) Hsarrazin (talk) 08:10, 21 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Obviously, I need to NOT empty reports - i.e. leave at least 1 item without completing P570 -, since, yesterday, the bot stopped after updating Wikidata:Database_reports/Deaths_at_Wikipedia/1946 (empty) - my watchlist shows it updating 1941, 42, 43, 44, 45 and 46... and nothing after that :(
I worry that other years later, could encounter the same problem, sorry ... Hsarrazin (talk) 09:20, 27 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Undeletion requests

[edit]

When merging items recently I found that several items had been deleted after Wikidata:Project chat/Archive/2021/04#Upcoming deletion of 5500+ non-existing villages on enwiki but still have articles in other languages connected to items with no statements, which I would like to merge to them: Q4841651, Q4860027, Q4940965, Q17062682, Q6445857, Q6784571, Q6934009, Q17078281, Q7423696, Q7421464, Q7682345 and Q7825841. Could you please restore these items?

Also when checking National Heritage List for England number (P1216) for IDs that had been removed from Wikidata I found Q26600900 had been deleted, but it should have had P1216 and heritage designation (P1435) - could you also restore that item (or a version of it with those properties)? Is this still related to the request by User:Peter_James? —MisterSynergy (talk) 21:55, 20 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Unlikely, based on the label, Wikidata:Requests for deletions/Archive/2025/06/21#Q131698950 and User talk:Ameisenigel#Deleted Page Q131698950; I've made this a new section. Peter James (talk) 22:33, 20 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Okay thanks.
The other deleted item about the person besides Q130946534, Q131698950, looks like a blatantly promotional entry; however, there is nothing that implies notability at first sight. Do we have any independent external sources that describe the person, besides all the promotion that I can find in Q131698950? —MisterSynergy (talk) 22:59, 20 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Zugang zu Wikidata/Benutzeroberfläche

[edit]

Mewa767 (talk) 23:12, 30 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Undeletion of Q137460371 (BOSS Solutions) - Industry Recognition Evidence

[edit]

Thank you for the clarification. I understand that government contracts alone do not equal notability.

However, the entity HAS received significant **independent third-party coverage** and industry recognition, specifically in major market reports (Gartner Digital Markets / Capterra).

The company is consistently ranked in independent "Best of" lists based on proprietary market analysis (not paid placements):

1. **Capterra Shortlist 2024 & 2025 (ITSM & Asset Management):**

The entity is listed in the top tier ("Shortlist") of the market, which requires meeting strict independent criteria for reviews and market presence.
  * *Evidence:* [7] (Listed as "BOSSDesk")
  * *Evidence:* [8]

2. **Gartner Digital Markets "FrontRunner" recognition:**

Referenced in multiple industry aggregators as a top-rated solution.

This combination of **Government Usage** (previously provided .gov link) + **Industry Recognition** (Capterra/Gartner Shortlists) confirms it meets the "Notability (Software)" criteria.

Please reconsider based on this industry ranking evidence. I simply want to create a compliant, neutral item. Tristan788 (talk) 17:59, 23 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Capterra is a marketing platform; typically, entries are more visible on such websites the more money is paid. This is not independent third-party coverage; it is pretty much the exact opposite of what we are looking for in terms of Wikidata notabiliy. —MisterSynergy (talk) 20:36, 23 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
