Question on edit

[edit]

Could you explain this edit? https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q149566&oldid=prev&diff=2434736414 How is a school not a geographical entity? Without this tag, any attempt to add the OSM attributes, like OSM way, will result in an warning. EvanCarroll (talk) 05:34, 29 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Admin?

[edit]

Hello. I'm not sure if anyone has approached you before, but are you interested in becoming an administrator here? You have hundreds of deletion taggings in your deleted contributions and I believe that you can do those administrative work yourself. I could nominate you if you are keen to become an administrator here. Thank you. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 10:19, 12 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Noting here that we have discussed adminship more on Discord, and I accept the nomination by Jianhui67 :) Samoasambia 15:07, 20 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Batch request

[edit]

Would it be possible for you to make a batch to delete these statements? In the Music Wikidata project there is broad agreement that these uses of the properties are inappropriate but it's too much to fix manually--Trade (talk) 21:19, 24 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Congratulations, Dear Administrator!

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades... (our gift is better than the one at Commons or Meta)

Here's your badge: {{User admin}}/{{#babel:admin}} and {{Admin topicon}}. Enjoy!

Congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Wikidata. Please take a moment to read the Wikidata:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Wikidata:Project chat, Wikidata:Requests for comment, and Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikidata-adminconnect. If you need access, you can flag someone down at #wikidataconnect. You may find Wikidata:Guide to Adminship to be useful reading. You may also want to consider adding yourself to meta:Template:Wikidata/Ambassadors, and to any similar page on your home wiki if one exists. (Check Wikipedia:Wikidata/Wikidatans (Q14964498).)

Please also add/update the languages you speak to your listing at Wikidata:List of administrators and Wikidata:Administrators/Timeline. You may also like to add your username to this list if you would not like that items you delete at RfD get marked as deleted automatically. Again, welcome to the admin corps!

Re: Merging

[edit]

Hi Samoasambia. I already got this advice from Madamebiblio a couple weeks ago and I'm currenly working with the merge system ever since. Thanks anyway for your advice, any help is always welcome. Greetings. AntoFran (talk) 16:17, 30 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! I missed that Madamebiblio had already messaged you about this. Samoasambia 13:40, 31 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

About this talk (yes, he was me). Some doubts and explanations

[edit]

Hi, I tried to find my works of yesterday of some commons-only categories. Uhm... Maybe there is something I've not understood about Wikidata. I knew that any page, category or template created elsewhere (Wikipedia, Commons etc...) needed a creation of a Wikidata page (item is the correct word? Sorry, I dunno...). So, as you have seen yesterday on that message, I discover a different thing: so, creating some "set categories", am I not obliged to create a page here? I didn't know, and I have to admit that this should simplify some of my works, because any creation elsewhere (eg: Wikipedia) is complicated by the techno-bureaucratic work here :-) ... A bit boring, I admit. So, is it unnecessary? Because, usually, I found that any Wikimedia creation has its page here. Thanks for attention, and if you answere, you could do it here, because my IP can change, but I can easily remember your user talk. Good work. 87.10.70.30 06:40, 31 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello, thanks for your message! Yes, there is no obligation to create Wikidata items for wiki pages you have created. But it is helpful and you may do so if the item meets our notability policy. Most Wikimedia wiki pages meet the Wikidata notability policy but there is an exception for Wikimedia Commons categories: "Category items with a sitelink only to Wikimedia Commons are not permitted, unless either a) there is a corresponding main item which has a sitelink to a Commons gallery or b) the item is used in a Commons-related statement, such as luokka category for pictures taken with this camera (P2033)" (point #1.4). So that kind of items should not be created. I hope you find this helpful, please ask if you have further questions. Samoasambia 13:39, 31 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Your deletion of Q136681050

[edit]

The discussion in [1] was not closed. Granpar (talk) 13:52, 1 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

I would expect to see some serious and publicly available sources to consider Q136681050 notable per WD:N. I did some research before deletion and found only self-published social media posts about the person and their legal case. And reviewed them again I do still consider it unnotable. I don't know anything about Wikidata. I only created that Wikidata entry because I created a Wikipedia page of the same name, and decided to create a Wikidata entry for it. How do I go about that without it getting deleted? TheNatureKid (talk) 23:17, 4 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi TheNatureKid, sorry, I didn't notice you had created an article about it on Wikipedia. I restored the item and linked your Wikipedia article onto it. For future you can find instructions for how to add sitelinks (e.g. Wikipedia articles) to Wikidata items at Help:Sitelinks. Samoasambia 12:42, 5 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Nazi UFOs reverts[2]

[edit]

The claim that Schauberger designed Nazi UFOs is a conspiracy theory. Fictional objects could not have been designed by anyone. ~2025-33014-64 (talk) 11:34, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Also: I would have mentioned this reasoning in my edit summary, but the interface did not allow me to give a custom one. ~2025-33014-64 (talk) 11:36, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
I believe I can help. You can qualify the claim like so Nazi UFOs (Q700063)designed by (P287)Viktor Schauberger (Q89544)nature of statement (P5102)dubious (Q104378399) to make it clear that the claim is dubious. This is preferable to simply removing claims. For a full list of qualified reasons, see Property:P5102#P2302. Infrastruktur (talk) 11:49, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I'll look into this. ~2025-33014-64 (talk) 12:02, 12 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Regarding deletion of Q134008534

[edit]

Hello Samoasambia,

I believe the deletion of the item master signifier (Q134008534) may not align fully with the Wikidata notability policy. According to WD:N, an item is notable if any one of the following applies:

  1. It is described by a serious and publicly available source, or
  2. It is referred to in a Wikimedia project in multiple languages, or
  3. It is needed to make structured data more useful.

The Lacanian master signifier (S1) clearly satisfies the first two criteria:

1. Substantial coverage in publicly available academic sources

[edit]

The concept is well established in Lacanian psychoanalysis and appears extensively in scholarly books and peer-reviewed articles.

Google Scholar lists a large corpus of academic literature referring to the “master signifier”:

https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&q=master+signifier

2. Mentions across multiple Wikipedia language editions

[edit]

Although it does not yet have its own standalone article, it is referenced explicitly in several Wikipedia articles across different languages:

These satisfy WD:N point 2 (“referred to in a Wikimedia project”), even without a dedicated article.

Given this, it seems that the concept does meet Wikidata’s notability requirements.

If needed, I would be happy to add academic references, clarifying descriptions, or structural relationships to re-create the item in a fully policy-compliant form.

Thank you for your time,

Ragnulfar Ragnulfar (talk) 20:33, 15 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello Ragnulfar, I have undeleted Q134008534 as you requested because we can count the academic articles you provided as serious and publicly available references under point 2 of WD:N (your point number 1). I want to also clarify that the point 1 of WD:N requires that there should be page about the consept on a Wikimedia wiki, not just a mention on some Wikimedia wiki page. Revert

[edit]

Can you explain your revert of my merger of Q102037825 and Q29550029? There are two Wikipedia articles in question, one German and one English. They are the same. They list historial figures with the same name, which is modernized variously as Dietwin or Theodwin. The pages should be linked. Srnec (talk) 21:19, 15 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi, sorry for late response. On Wikidata we generally keep disambiguation pages with different titles on separate items even when their meaning would be the same. More details are available at Wikidata:WikiProject Disambiguation pages/guidelines. I added some sitelinks to redirects to Q102037825 and Q29550029 enabling interwiki linking between the two. Kysymyksiä

[edit]

Moikka Samoasambia! Koska olen varsin uusi täällä, enkä tunne suomalaisia, ajattelin kysyä sinulta asiaa, jota aloin juuri ihmetellä. Q114316033-kohde on tyhjä ja toimii redirectinä toiseen kohteeseen. Mihin tällaisia kohteita tarvitaan, eli onko se tarpeellinen, vai jäänyt tuhoamatta? Ja mikä on oikea paikka kysyä tällaisia kysymyksiä? Onko suomalaisilla WD-harrastajilla kenties joku oma juttelupaikka täällä tai jossain muualla? Kiitos muuten vielä kyselystä, jonka minulle [3]. Onko tuollaisia kyselyitä tapana laittaa talteen Project-sivuille? Jjanhone (talk) 19:19, 17 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Samoasambia 20:21, 17 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Editing too fast

[edit]

Hi. You're editing too fast, flooding RecentChanges. Please use a flood or bot flag if you want to make 76 edits in 1 minute and 12 seconds. Nirmos (talk) 01:11, 24 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi! It is commonly accepted practice here on Wikidata that running batches with QuickStatements does not require a flood or bot flag. If you have a look at the recent batches [4][5] you see that there has been tens of thousands of edits done today with QuickStatements. Did my edits leak to svwiki RecentChanges or how did you even notice them? If QuickStatements batches cause problems on RecentChanges of client wikis (Wikipedias etc.) I would consider using a flood flag but I wouldn't be too worried about Wikidata's RecentChanges. Where do I report possible duplicates?

[edit]

Hello @Samoasambia:, Is there a central page (a notice board) where I should post the Q numbers of a pair of Wikidata items that--I believe--should be merged? For example, I think that Q3710162 should be merged into Q1269351. On 19 November, I wrote this suggestion on the Discussion pages of both items, but it might have been overlooked. I will appreciate your advice. By the way, you noticed two of my other suggestions (Q66563425, Q66563440) and merged them appropriately. Thank you for that. Ion Soggo (talk) 01:06, 25 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

I can see page "Wikidata:Proposed mergers", but it seems that nobody used it even once since it was created in 2017.
Ion Soggo (talk) 22:29, 25 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hi Ion Soggo! We don't have any centralized notice board for merge request/proposals but I have noticed that people quite often post them on Help talk:Merge and Wikidata:Project chat in addition to item talk pages (which are often unfortunately overlooked as you pointed out). I saw your proposal regarding Q3710162 and Q1269351 but I wasn't sure about that since both items have sitelinks to Italian Wikipedia. I suggest you could start a discussion about that on the Project chat :) Samoasambia 23:52, 25 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, @Samoasambia:. Yes, there are two pages in the Italian Wikipedia:
I believe they are synonyms. Last week, I wrote that on the discussion pages of these 2 articles, asking whether they should be merged. In English, both terms are synonyms (ICD-11 6A04, DSM-5 315.4, SNOMED CT 27544004).
Gibbs et al. (2007) write in "Conclusion": "in practice dyspraxia and DCD should be regarded as synonymous".

[edit]

Hello, I have undone your wikidata merge: https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q116951728&oldid=2446061405

The two items concern two very different people (different dates of birth and death, origins, and professions). This mix-up has happened a few times already in German wikipedia. Probably because one of the guys does not have any Wikipedia page. I think about creating a stub just for preventing this mixup. In the meantime: It would be helpful to check especially carefully when merging. It is not so easy to undo, I had to manually re-enter some data because of your mistake. Take care, thank you! Tartigradesinspace (talk) 17:26, 23 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi Tartigradesinspace, thanks for unmerging my false merge. I think the items had exactly the same dates of birth and death at the time which lead to them to come up in this database report of possible duplicates. In the future you can add different from (P1889) properties to items that may be mixed up with each other. It blocks also merges. Samoasambia 23:41, 1 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

depth (Q181591)

[edit]

Not sure why did you unmerged Q16556573 and depth (Q181591). To me they are the same, or at least en and pl versions are. Can you explain? Jarekt (talk) 23:16, 1 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hi, we have a guideline for disambiguation page items that states that each disambiguation item should only contain links to Wikipedia disambiguation pages with the exact same spelling with exceptions for special characters and transcriptions. I was inially concerned about a merge of a non-disambiguation item and a disambiguation item but now I noticed that depth (Q181591) was hijacked by another user and it was actually originally a disambiguation item.
