About WikiProject Australasian Systematic Botany Society Conference 2025
[edit]The Australasian Systematic Botany Society Conference (ASBS) took place from 2 to 6 November 2025. The organisers of this WikiProject see this conference as an ideal opportunity to engage with the wider botanical community, educate them about the potential of Wikidata as well as Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons and to train them to engage more broadly with the Wikiverse. We used this opportunity to improve the data held in Wikidata about the participants, presenters and their contributions to botany.
Aims and scope
[edit]- Deliver an online introductory Wiki webinar
- Deliver a Wiki workshop to upto 25 conference participants
- Deliver a Wiki related presentation at the conference
- "Wikify" the conference, its participants and their contributions to botany
- Engage in informal outreach during the conference
Organisers
[edit]- The ASBS workshop was be held on Sunday 2nd of November from 9am until 4.30pm. For more information on the workshop see the event page.
- We also held a free one-hour online onboarding session and introduction for the Wiki workshop on Tuesday 14th of October at 3pm NZST (GMT+12) (i.e. 10am Perth, 12pm Papua New Guinea, and 1pm Sydney).

- This free hands-on introductory seminar gave participants an introduction to Wikidata, Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons and why it is important for botanists (and indeed all scientists) to actively improve entries and engage with Wikidata. Our focus was on topics relevant to plant biodiversity, especially botanists, collectors, taxa, specimens, scientific publications, and research, but it is relevant to other scientists and researchers. We also assisted those who do not yet have Wikidata usernames to create them during this session. Those who registered for the below in-person workshop were highly encouraged to attend this Zoom meeting, however it was open to all who were interested.

The organisers of this WikiProject are offering a virtual follow-up workshop open to anyone interested in expanding their Wiki skills in adding content on botany and botanists to the Wikiverse.
This workshop will be held on Tuesday the 9th of December at 3.30pm NZST.
