Wikidata:WikiProject Museum of Glass

From Wikidata

Welcome to WikiProject Museum of Glass (Q2894440)! This WikiProject is a hub for improving the authority data of the Museum of Glass Visiting Artist Residency (Q137304009) as a part of our Visiting Artist Residency Digital Archive digital infrastructure updates. These updates have been generously funded by the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust (Q30689078) and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (Q6040649).

This project is modeled on similar data projects established by the Smithsonian American Art Museum (Q1192305), the Philadelphia Art Museum (Q510324) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (Q160236) and aims to add glass art subject speciality and mid-sized museum representation to this type of data work.

Many thanks to the excellent Wikidata:WikiProject Smithsonian American Art Museum/SAAM Artists page for providing the foundation for our WikiProject page. We are incredibly grateful!

Project Background

[edit]

This authority project is an MLIS capstone project at the University of Washington Information School (Q7896574). It prioritizes adding new people and organizations who have participated in the Museum of Glass Visiting Artist Residency (Q137304009) to Wikidata based on information stored within MOG's collection management system The Museum System (Q107404505) and within the museum's institutional archives. It also involves enriching data for those residents who are already present in Wikidata.

Our goal is to improve the visibility of the talented glass artists who have been in residence in our Hot Stop and to improve their authority data based on the primary and secondary sources within our libraries and archives and through a recent artist demographics project. The preliminary upload of data will be achieved by uploading exported data from TMS into OpenRefine (Q5583871). OpenRefine will be used for the reconciliation and mapping of concepts to existing Wikidata entities and to add new Wikidata entities.

The first phase of this project involves updating Wikidata and proposing new records for Visiting Artists not represented in the Getty Union List of Artist Names (Q2494649).

The second phase will include mass importing additional data points generated after the launch of eMuseum (Q107400920) and the addition of new ULAN IDs.
