Aim and Scope

[edit]

WikiProject Piano Rolls originated as part of the Stanford Piano Roll Program, a collaboration between Stanford Libraries and the Stanford University Department of Music to digitize, preserve and make available scans of player piano rolls held in Stanford Libraries’ collections.

Entity Model

[edit]

The entity model is based on the WikiProject Music model for recorded music. The primary entities are related through the recording or performance of and tracklist properties.

Composition

[edit]

Represents the musical work that is performed and recorded on a piano roll. For example, Chopin's Nocturne No. 8 in D-flat major, Op. 27, No. 2.

Label (English): the most common name that the work would be known by an English-language speaker. The 'English' label does not need to be an English title if the composition is well-known by a foreign-language title, e.g. "In der Fremde" by Schumann.

Description (English): A brief description to disambiguate the composition from other items with the same name. Prefer the format: [year] composition by [composer].

Represents an edition of a published piano roll. For example, Polonaise op. 53 in A flat, an Aeolian Company Duo-Art piano roll published in 1925. Note that each edition of a piano roll should have a separate Wikidata item. If the content changes, a new item should be created for that version.

Label (English): transcribe the title from the piano roll.

Description (English): Prefer the format: [roll type] piano roll release by [publisher] in [year]. May omit 'roll type' if appropriate.
